Building passive income is a powerful way to work toward financial freedom. The great thing is, you can start small and use your existing skills and talents. Many of us have unique gifts that can be turned into income streams, and there are plenty of ways to get started online.

Discovering Your Gifts and Turning Them into Income

A meaningful first step in building passive income is prayerfully seeking God’s guidance. Ask Him to reveal your unique gifts, and how best to use them. Whether it’s a creative skill like design, a knack for writing, or technical expertise, there’s often a way to monetize your talents online. There are ways to make even your free time/ leisure time profitable if you are creative and willing to think outside the box.

For instance, I started taking surveys on platforms like dscout—they’re simple, flexible, and actually pretty fun. With dscout, you can earn extra money by giving feedback on apps or products. Instead of scrolling social media you could take a survey and be compensated for your opinion. You could also explore freelance work, which can turn skills like graphic design or web development into income. For instance, my wife tapped into her creativity and skill in design to do freelance web design work. It was an ideal way for her to bring in additional income while transitioning to being a full-time stay-at-home mom.

Ideas to Get Started with Passive Income

Here are a few other ways to build passive income online:

  • Affiliate Marketing: Share products you love through a blog or social media, and earn a commission for each sale.

  • Create Digital Products: If you’re a writer or have specialized knowledge, consider creating an eBook or online course. It’s a fantastic way to earn while sharing valuable information with others.

  • Freelance Services: Websites like Fiverr and Upwork let you offer services based on skills like writing, editing, or coding. Think about what you already do for your main job. Usually there is some aspect of that work that can be offered as a freelance service.

  • Investing in Cashflowing-Assets: This is also a broad category but it is important to focus on cashflow as you consider what financial freedom looks like to you. There are many asset classes that can provide steady streams of semi-passive or passive income just by owning the asset. A few that I believe deserve consideration are rental real estate (short-term, mid-term, and long-term), debt funds (car notes, personal loan notes), Mortgage notes, dividend stocks, real estate funds and syndications, crypto currency mining rigs, car and rv rentals.

Creating Your Plan for Financial Freedom

Building passive income while working a full-time job is all about having a plan. Set clear milestones, such as earning an extra $200 a month within the first quarter, and gradually scale your efforts. By setting small goals, you’re creating a foundation that can grow over time.

Starting with what you already know and letting God guide you can open doors to financial freedom. Use your gifts wisely, work diligently, and remember that consistency is key.
